Sundays at 9:00 a.m., learners of all ages — from three to infinity — join forces in Mecklenburg Hall for Faith Practice. This innovative, interactive, and intergenerational approach to what was previously the traditional Sunday School hour, comes to SMPC after extensive research by the Spiritual Formation Ministry — including input from seasoned former Sunday School teachers representing all age groups — and Faith Practice has the unanimous approval of our Session.
So what does Faith Practice look like? “It is a total transformation of how we used to offer ‘Sunday School,’” Rebecca Guzman, Director of Spiritual Formation, explained. “Instead of dividing ourselves by age groups on Sunday mornings, Faith Practice is a cross generational education and worship space where we will PRACTICE our faith.” At 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings ALL ages will gather around tables in Mecklenburg Hall to practice creative ways to dig into the Bible, practice talking about our faith with one another, and practice ways we can continue learning about our faith throughout the week while implementing the Faith Five approach.
SMPC’s eighth grade students continue their faith journeys in Confirmation Class on Sunday mornings, and will join Faith Practice on occasion. The JOY and All Things Considered classes are offered as well.
Faith Practice is about energizing and educating across generations while building relationships and sharing bonds.
