Our Mission:  To seek God's will for our children's lives and to cultivate a joyful response to the Good News of Jesus Christ with Love and Grace.

The SMPC Weekday School is one of South Charlotte’s best preschool facilities designed and developed for maximum enjoyment and developmental fulfillment of all the students attending. The part-day program has operated since 1993 as a ministry of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.

When comparing quality preschools, it is important to understand the type of program you are selecting.

Questions that should be asked:

  • How many teachers are there per classroom?  Many programs have floaters who are considered stationary teachers.  SMPC has two dedicated teachers per classroom.  Both are educators, not one teacher and an aid.
  • What is the turnover rate of teachers in the program?  The SMPC staff averages over 10 years of service to the weekday school program.  The turnover rate in staff is extremely low compared to other area programs.
  • How many children will be in my child's classroom?  In North Carolina, part-time programs operating fewer than 4 hours per day are not governed by the state.  The ratios at SMPC are as low as 4:1 (two year olds) and never greater than 9:1 (five year olds).
  • What types of enrichment programs are offered?  Enrichment programs offered at SMPC include but are not limited to science, music, storytellers from the SCR Library, field trips (both on and off campus) as well as the incorporation of the Making Great Readers philosophy.
  • What is available to me if my child needs support?  It is critical that any child who needs assistance with speech, motor or cognitive delays be identified prior to beginning kindergarten.  Early intervention is paramount.  Assistance is given to parents in locating and coordinating developmental testing, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy or behavioral therapy.

Families from many cultures and religions will feel at home with the weekday school family.  We invite you to share your culture with us.

At SMPC the tenured staff is composed of dedicated and experienced teachers with child development credentials, undergraduate and some postgraduate degrees. The staff stays on the cutting edge of preschool education with required annual continuing education, bi-annual CPR/First Aid training, and bi-monthly team building meetings.

Our Philosophy:

South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church Weekday School offers a developmentally appropriate program designed to encourage a child's grown in a Christian atmosphere. Since play is the work of young children, we provide an environment that encourages active exploration of their world. Each child grows in independence, social skills, and the development of unique talents and abilities. Our goal is to be the bridge for your child's successful transition from your home to their elementary school.

The SMPC Weekday School has earned the reputation of being a preschool of excellence and has in the past been referred to parents by local government agencies, Charlottemoms.com and local professionals.

All classrooms have a minimum of two teachers allowing a low child/teacher ratio.
