Youth Ministries at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church

The youth ministry of SMPC leads Middle School and High School-aged youth to embrace their identity as children of God, to establish and strengthen their relationship with God and the Church, and to equip and challenge them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Montreat Youth Conference, July 15-21: A trip to Montreat Youth Conference is an incredible SMPC tradition! Head up to the mountains with us for a great week of worship, fun, fellowship, and learning about the theme: Perfectly Imperfect. There will be lots of energizers, worship, small group time, and much, much more! This is an incredible time to grow closer to the youth in our church, meet new friends from around the country, and experience the presence of God in a whole new way. Check out the website if you'd like to learn more: http://www.montreat.org/current/2012-youth-conferences-at-montreat.

Cost will be approximately $450. The non-refundable deposit for this activity will be $50 and will be due to me no later than January 15. The remainder of your total payment will be due to me no later than May 1; after that date the entire balance will be non-refundable.

Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference June 21-24, 2012:

This trip will be a packed 4 days of keynotes, recreation, worship, small groups and more! A great time to grow in your faith! Check out their website for more information: http://massanettasprings.org/v.php?pg=179.
Cost will be approximately $375. The non-refundable deposit for this activity is $25 and will be due to me no later than January 15. The remainder of your total payment will be due to me no later than May 1, after that date the entire balance will be non-refundable.

 Sunday School
Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:30am

6th and 7th Grade: I Know the Bible!
The 6th and 7th grades focus on a more traditional Bible study in order to gain a better understanding of how God’s Word applies to our lives. The 6th grade class focuses on the New Testament, while the 7th grade class focuses on the Old Testament. Both classes meet in the Chapel Building.

8th Grade: Confirmation
Confirmation is an exciting adventure in the journey of faith. Our program culminates in joining the church, but also sparks lots of interesting questions and hopefully offers some answers about who God is, who we are in relation to God, why we are here, and where we are going. Please contact Rev. Katie Harrington (Katie@smpchome.org) if you are interested in joining the journey.

High School
In high school Sunday School, we use the Feasting on the Word curriculum to take a deeper look at a lectionary passage that is appointed for the day. We study the story, then put it into practice through skits, games, and lots of conversation.

High School Youth Calendar       Middle School Youth Calendar

Our youth group programs are divided into four areas: small groups, fellowship, family, and service and worship.

  • Small groups meet by grade level in members’ homes in order to focus on strengthening our bonds with one another.
  • Fellowship activities occur all over the city and focus on building community within the body of Christ.
  • Family nights focus on equipping our families to grow in faith together.
  • Worship and mission focus on deepening our individual relationships with God as well as responding to God’s Word by reaching out to our community.

Check out our calendar to see how we’re putting these into action! Along the way, we’ll also be going on retreats, walking in on CROP walk, 30 Hour Famine, and leading and creating the worship services on Youth Sunday. There will also be summer trips, including a mission trip, Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference, and Montreat Youth Conference. Join us as we grow in Christ together.
