Seen Around Church: Week of October 5, 2025
October 8, 2025SMPC Note: As part of our 2026 Operating Fund Campaign, Called to Community, we are highlighting members’ experiences at SMPC as they answer the call to community of God’s mercy and love at SMPC. We’ll share video and the transcripts each week. We hope you enjoy this series, Answering the Call to Community, and consider making a pledge as we are called to be God’s beloved community through worship, connection and service. This week we are highlighting Lisa Kuszmar. The transcript of her message is below.
As we begin our 2026 Annual Operating Campaign efforts, there is an elephant in the room, isn’t there?
Yup. We’re also entering a time of transition at SMPC. But even in times of change, the work of the church continues, and your support is what allows us to dream forward. We’re developing a vision – not only for us and our neighbors who drive by, but for Charlotte as a whole, and even for how we can serve God’s great, big world. This vision means more ministry, more outreach, and yes, more resources.
And here’s the amazing thing: the operating fund touches everything you love. Do you love the music that fills this sanctuary? The operating fund makes that possible. Do you love dropping your kids off at BAM and having your big kids active in our Youth ministries? It funds that too. Even the air conditioning on a hot summer Sunday is a gift of this fund. We don’t have an endowment or a secret “billionaire church member.” We rely on collective pledges – your commitment truly is the lifeblood of our church.
And as you review your Operating Campaign package, you will see that every pledge matters. Our goal this year is to have 300 pledging families—and we can reach that if each of us plays a part. The truth is, we don’t just need the big pledges, although those are wonderful. We especially need more pledges under $1,500. Starting small is more than okay – it’s faithful.
And here’s the best news: our sanctuary is fully paid off. That means we will never have to run another capital campaign. Just one big thing – the operating fund – so we can continue building the Beloved Community here at SMPC.
God provides, and we trust that promise. But we also know we can’t be complacent—especially not this year. With your pledge – whether big or small – you help us live out the gospel in this place, for this time, and for the world God loves.
Please be sure to turn in your pledge card or complete it online by October 26. Campaign packets are located in the narthex – please pick yours up as you leave today if you haven’t already.
Thank you.
