South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church is dedicated to serving our community through a variety of initiatives. We host regular American Red Cross Blood Drives to help meet the constant need for blood donations. In addition, we provide bag lunches for the Roof Above homeless shelter, donate and deliver bread to those in need, and many other worthy causes.
We encourage you to get involved and help SMPC serve our community.
Bag Lunches for Roof Above
SMPC is committed to providing 100 bag lunches a month to help feed our unsheltered neighbors at Roof Above. Contact: Julie Durham
Bread Donation and Delivery
We receive bread from Panera and deliver it every Friday morning to our neighbors at Roof Above and Loaves & Fishes. Sign up here.
Center of Hope
The Salvation Army Center of Hope provides emergency housing to women and children in need. We serve those who temporarily call Center of Hope home in a variety of ways from making Welcome Home Baskets to serving breakfast and providing desserts.
CROP Hunger Walk
Sponsor a walker or join us as we walk to fight hunger; the route begins and ends at the church. Contact: Lindsey Odom
Nourish Up
We support Nourish Up (formerly known as Loaves and Fishes) with several food drives per year and sort and distribute food at the pantry. Nourish Up is working to end food insecurity in our community.
Room in the Inn
Sundays, January 12, February 16 and March 2, we will help with dinner, overnight stays, and breakfast and cleanup. Room in the Inn is an initiative led by Roof Above. They partner with colleges and congregations of many faiths to open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months.
Smithfield Elementary School
We support the students and families of Smithfield Elementary School with food, clothing and school supplies. We also volunteer as math and reading tutors through the Augustine Literacy Project and Heart Math Tutoring. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a tutor, please fill out the form below.
