Seen Around Church: Week of August 31, 2025
September 3, 2025Our New Campus Signs Are Here!
Our new campus signage is officially installed, and we are thrilled to share it with you! The updated signs not only give SMPC greater visibility in our community but also create a more welcoming campus for all who visit.
A heartfelt thank you to our Sign Committee – church members Dave Earp, Lisa Kuszmar and Freda Smith, along with staff members Matt Brown, Cheryl Perry and Steve Stevenson – for their vision and dedication in bringing this project to life.
The next step is getting power to the signs so they are visible at night – more to come!

SMPC Donates 100 Bag Lunches to Roof Above
Thank you to all who donated bag lunches for Roof Above this past Saturday! Each month, SMPC provides 100 bag lunches for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. The impact of this act of service cannot be overstated! If you would like to participate in next month’s collection (Saturday, September 27), sign up here. A special thank you to this ministry’s coordinator, Julie Durham!

All Church Serves: Backpacks and Blessings
Sunday was a day full of service at SMPC! Our church community came together for All Church Serves, where we filled 75 backpacks with school supplies and made “Back to School” cards for students at Smithfield Elementary School. We loved seeing members and friends of all ages participate – including our confirmands and their mentors!
Thank you to everyone who donated supplies and joined us on Sunday morning. A special thanks to SMPC members Julie and Greg Hobby, who, along with Rev. Lindsey Odom, helped organize supplies and coordinate the event. After we filled the backpacks, we brought them to the sanctuary to be blessed alongside the backpacks of our members and friends.
We are praying for a smooth start to the school year for our children, youth, college students, teachers, administrators, and parents. What a joy it is to lift all of you in prayer! Go be the LIGHT!

Building Sweet Community at SMPC One Sip at a Time
Oh, how we love these sweet moments of fellowship after worship! They just never get old. It might look like just a “normal” Sunday, but we know better: these small moments are the building blocks to community and faith. We are blessed beyond measure to have the opportunity to enjoy lemonade and cookies with one another each Sunday! Thank you to our Lemonade on the Lawn “hostess with the mostest,” Terry Gaines, for the love and care she “pours” into this important ministry!

Just Keep Swimming…Right into Fall
Our middle and high schoolers kicked off the fall season of youth fun with a pool party on Sunday, August 24, at the home of the Sheelers! Swimming, cornhole, games, food, and fellowship—it doesn’t get much better than that. SMPC Youth has a wonderful year ahead, and we hope all of our middle and high schoolers can join us for as many events as possible! Check out the Youth page on our website or Realm for event registrations.
A big thank you to the Sheelers for being such amazing hosts!
