Church Family Moment for Sunday, March 8, 2026
March 4, 2026Ewo and Friends Empowering Haiti are merging and will now be called Konpayon, the Haitian Creole word for “companion.” Konpayon is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to walking alongside the OFCB Community in Bayonnais, Haiti.
“As our missions increasingly overlapped, a question surfaced again and again: Why are we separate when our vision is so aligned?” said Melissa Hoffmann, former Executive Director of Ewo and now Executive Director of Konpayon. “Merging gives us an opportunity not just to combine operations, but to clarify who we are becoming together. To reduce confusion. To become one organization, unified in our mission. To make a greater impact for the people of Bayonnais. As Konpayon.”
As longtime partners, SMPC is excited to support Konpayon in forming trust-filled, collaborative relationships with our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We will continue to support Konpayon in the same ways we supported Ewo and Friends Empowering Haiti: with fervent prayer, child sponsorships, and financial donations that help improve education and infrastructure in Bayonnais.
Here’s what you need to know:
Ewo Student Sponsorships
If you are currently sponsoring a child:
- Checks should now be made out to Konpayon.
- Credit card transactions will reflect the new name on billing statements.
- The billing address stays the same: 338 S. Sharon Amity, #280, Charlotte, NC 28211.
- Sponsors may still see the name Ewo on student letters and bios coming out of Haiti for a few months, as forms in the Bayonnais office are updated.
Friends Empowering Haiti Donors
Konpayon will reach out directly to assist in transitioning gifts to the new platform. Supporters will be asked to update their giving to Konpayon using the same mailing address: 338 S. Sharon Amity, #280, Charlotte, NC 28211.
Change takes time. Ewo and Friends Empowering Haiti will keep their legacy bank accounts and mailboxes open for a few months to give everyone time to transition over. We will keep their staff in our prayers during this season of change.
While travel to Haiti is still not permitted, we can continue the legacy many of our SMPC members started in the 1990s to support the OFCB community – now through Konpayon! If you have any questions about how SMPC supports this mission, please contact Rev. Lindsey Odom.
