- Story Connection: The Beautiful Oops
Watch The Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg here. This book reminds us that mistakes can lead to something new and beautiful. In today’s scripture, Peter remembers a time when he made a big mistake—he denied knowing Jesus. But instead of turning away, Jesus gives Peter another chance and a new purpose. As Noell Rathbun-Cook writes, Jesus “graciously redeems and redirects” Peter’s life (StoryPath source). How might God be doing the same for us? - Create: “Beautiful Oops” Art
Take a piece of paper and “mess it up”—crumple it, drip water on it, tear it, or scribble on it. Then turn it into something beautiful. Can your scribble become a flower? A mountain? A design? Just like Jesus helped Peter find new purpose, we can see our mistakes as opportunities for something new. - Game: “Feed My Lambs”
Set up two bowls and some breakfast cereal (or other small, lightweight items). Place a picture of a lamb on one bowl to make the “lamb bowl.” Give each person a spoon. The goal is to move the cereal from the “feeding bowl” to the “lamb bowl” using only the spoon. When you say “go,” begin scooping and carrying the cereal—try not to drop any! This reminds us of Jesus’ words to Peter: “Feed my lambs,” inviting him to care for others. - Wonder Together
- I wonder how Peter felt when Jesus gave him another chance.
- I wonder why Jesus trusted Peter again.
- I wonder how God can turn our mistakes into something new.
- I wonder how we can care for others, like Jesus asked Peter to do.
