Happy Easter! That’s right—Easter isn’t just one day. It’s a whole season in the life of the church, where we continue to celebrate the good news that Jesus is alive and that love is stronger than anything else. Today’s story from the Gospel of Luke tells us about one of Jesus’ first appearances to his friends after the resurrection. They were scared and confused, but Jesus showed up, saying “Peace be with you.”
Each week during our Church Family Moment, we offer ways to interact with the scripture—whether you’re worshiping here in the sanctuary or at home. These ideas are designed to help children and families explore the story together through reading, playing, creating, and wondering. Let’s dive into today’s story and see what God might be saying to us!
- Peace Tag
When Jesus appeared to the disciples after his resurrection, he said, “Peace be with you.” Even though they were scared, Jesus came with calm and love. Try playing “Peace Tag” with your family: tag someone gently while saying, “Peace be with you!” That person becomes “it” and keeps the peace moving. - Storytime: The Moonbow of Mr. B. Bones
In In The Moonbow of Mr. B. Bones by J. Patrick Lewis, a boy named Tommy doesn’t believe until he sees something amazing—a moonbow. Just like Thomas, once he sees, he becomes a believer for life. Watch the read-aloud here and read more on Storypath. - “Peace Be With You” Art
Make a collage or drawing that shows what peace means to you. Add the words “Peace be with you,” and hang it up to remember Jesus’ message. - Wondering Together
Why did Jesus greet the disciples with peace?
b. How would you feel if you were Thomas?
c. When is it hard to believe something you can’t see?
d. How can you share peace this week?
