- Check out our Year of Justice ideas for August. The theme for this month is peace. As part of Jesus’ final words to his disciples, recorded in John 14:15-31, he said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” These words remind us to be peacemakers, but that is not an easy task. Get an 8.5×11 piece of white paper and write down John 14:27, which says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you” and decorate it and hang it up on your wall.
- Sometimes it is hard to know the right or best thing to do. Check out these 30 scenarios. They aren’t all about what’s right or wrong, but they are all good exercises in thinking about what to do in a tricky situation. Talk about it with someone else and see what you can come up with!
- Listen to a readaloud of No, David! by David Shannon. Joshua Andrzejewski writes, “After being confronted by the prophet Nathan, David acknowledges his sin against God. While younger children will not understand the parable Nathan tells, this story can highlight the importance of being honest and ‘confessing’ when we’ve ‘sinned’ (abstract terms that could be taught to older children through this biblical story.” Think about what happens when you are wrong. What do you do? How do you make it right?
- Journal, considering the following:
- Why do you think Nathan told David this story?
- Have you ever realized that you had done something wrong? What happened? What did you do later?
- What do you think David might do next?
