- In our scripture passage for today, the people keep asking God for a king, but he says no. Finally, he does give them a king, and it turns out that God was right. It was a bad idea. Maybe you will draw a picture that shows what you would do if you were the king or the queen! What kinds of rules would you have? What kinds of things would be important? What would your kingdom look like? Who would be in charge?
- Pray for your leaders. Make a long list of all the leaders in your life. Don’t forget people like team captains, scout troop leaders, camp counselors, people who serve in elected offices, teachers, pastors, etc. Pray over each leader.
- Play “Obey the King or Queen” – Use the same rules as Mother, May I? (saying, Your Highness, May I?). Make a crown or use a hat for the leader. Make sure everyone gets a turn to do both. What did it feel like to be the leader? The follower?
- Journal, considering the following:
- Why do you think the people wanted a king?
- What did Samuel think about this? What did God think?
- Why do you think God finally gave them a king?
