August 14, 2023Youth Meet for Sweet Treats and Fellowship
Our youth had a great time last week during Message and Macarons at Amelie’s Bakery! The group joined for a short devotion, fellowship and a sweet treat. Thank you to our youth who came and thank you to Director of Youth Ministry Lindsey Odom for leading these fun summer events!
SMPC Campus Gets a Sprucing
Thanks to the Property Committee, SMPC members and friends and Scout Troops 119 and 219, our campus got a little more beautiful over the weekend! We also acquired a beautiful new hydrangea planted near the narthex entrance. We look forward to seeing it grow and blossom over the years.

SMPC Note: This summer we’ve launched a weekly series called “Faces of Faith” where we spotlight SMPC members and learn about how their faith and involvement in the church have impacted their lives. This week’s spotlight is on SMPC member Tom Massey.
Faces of Faith: Tom Massey
Family: My wife, Sarah, and I moved to Waxhaw from Clemson, SC, over twenty years ago. We’re both retired Air Force, me a pilot and she a nurse. We also have a son a couple of hours away who just retired from the Army. We occasionally have one of our two granddaughters sitting in the pew with us.
Years at SMPC: We moved our church affiliation to SMPC seven years ago, and have been blessed with many new and caring friends.
How does studying the Scripture ahead of time with the pastor enrich your experience during Sunday worship? I really enjoy the Conversations with Dr. Matt Brown class on Wednesdays in which we explore the scriptures that background the next Sunday’s message. It gives us an insight into Matt’s mind, his personal theology and values, and his ways of thinking. It is a delight to witness the “Aha!” moments, whether by the pastor or the congregants. It is unlike any opportunity I’ve encountered before.
SMPC Note: Conversations with Matt Brown resumes after its summer hiatus this Wednesday, August 16, at 9:30 a.m. in Chapel 206 and Zoom. Contact Matt Brown for the Zoom I.D., [email protected]. The 6:30 p.m. study resume date is to be determined.
