July 24, 2024Yes, Angels Wear Running Shoes!
SMPC members Bob Williamson and Jerrie Olsen “adventured” to a medical appointment for Jerrie last week. Bob is one of the volunteer drivers for SMPC’s Transportation Ministry, which provides transportation for the congregation to medical appointments and other needs. Jerrie refers to her volunteer drivers as “my angels.”

Scouts Honor One of Their Own
On Thursday, July 18, nearly 30 Scouts and leaders of Troop 119 attended a service to celebrate the life of Eagle Scout Victor Leeser, age 26. Victor was a member of Troop 119. During the service, SMPC and Troop 119 members David Gaines and Tim Morgan shared reflections on Victor’s tremendous impact on his Troop. We continue to keep Victor and his family and friends in our prayers.

SMPC Members Serve Breakfast to Center of Hope Guests
On Saturday, July 20, SMPC members served breakfast to Center of Hope guests. Center of Hope offers temporary shelter for women and children in need. SMPC serves a hot breakfast of freshly scrambled eggs, pancakes, grits, fresh fruit, and bacon on the third Saturday of every month. Volunteers leave the church around 5:20 a.m. and caravan to Center of Hope. Breakfast prep commences, and we serve guests beginning at 7:30 a.m. We are back to the church a little after 9:00 a.m.
It is a WONDERFUL way to spend a Saturday morning. Not only do you help those who need it most, but you get to know fellow SMPC members as you serve alongside one another.
Our next breakfast is Saturday, August 17. If you’d like to serve or donate food, please sign up here.
Bonus: This same group was back together the next morning in worship (the picture is missing the Sunstroms – they had just left!). Worship, connect, serve – it’s what we strive to follow at SMPC!
SMPC Staff Member Shares Knowledge, Gifts with Youth at Massanetta
Director of Music and Organist Zach Bowyer is spending the week at the Massanetta Springs Bible and Church Music Conference as the clinician for Youth Choir, Youth Handbells and Organ. We are so happy for him that he can share his incredible gifts with attendees and pray that his week is full of love, learning and harmony!
Three Cheers for VBS and Mission Possible!
We have had a blast this week with children and youth on campus for Vacation Bible School and Mission Possible. Our VBS participants have spent the week learning more about the Bible through stories, music, art and play. Our Mission Possible youth have spent the week in service. They shopped for school supplies for students at Smithfield Elementary School on Monday, served at Crisis Assistance Ministries on Tuesday and collected 82.70 pounds for the St. Giles food pantry before volunteering there on Wednesday.
Look for a full wrap-up coming in the next couple of weeks, but here are a few pictures from the beginning of the week! We are so blessed to have such a vibrant community of children, youth and adults. Thank you to VBS leader Adrienne Jaquith and our many adult and youth volunteers!
