SMPC Youth met up on Wednesday, July 5 for the much-loved Waffle Cone Wednesday at Cold Stone Creamery in Blakeney. Director of Youth Lindsey Odom shared a devotion and the youth enjoyed delicious ice cream and each other’s company. The next Waffle Cone Wednesday is scheduled for August 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Cold Stone Creamery in Blakeney. Registration is not required and youth are encouraged to bring a friend!
On Sunday, July 9, we witnessed the baptism of Zayn, who is the third generation of his family to be members of SMPC! His grandparents, Jane and Tom McElhaney, were the first couple to be married at SMPC. What a beautiful sight!
Sunday, July 9 was a Center of Hope Desserts day! Thank you to our volunteers who baked sweet treats for Center of Hope residents. The next dessert collection day for Center of Hope is Sunday, August 13. Sign up below!
Our high schoolers headed to Montreat Conference Center on Sunday, July 9. They are spending the week there – many more pictures to come! We pray that they are finding meaning and fulfillment in their faith life and friendships. They will return on Saturday, July 15.See More Photos
Twenty-four youth and adults from BSA Troop 119 just got back from an incredible adventure out West. The group left Charlotte on Saturday, June 26 for Colorado to whitewater raft and climb then headed to New Mexico to Philmont BSA Family Adventure Camp. The group climbed to the summit of summit Baldy Mountain (12,441 ft), rode horses, pole climbed and threw tomahawks, among other fun activities. Looks like a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many – we are so glad they are home safely and had a wonderful time!
SMPC Note: This summer we’ve launched a weekly series called “Faces of Faith” where we spotlight SMPC members and learn about how their faith and involvement in the church have impacted their lives. This week’s spotlight is on SMPC member Jon Myers!
Name: Jon Myers
Family: Crystal and I met at Virginia Tech and got married right when we moved to Charlotte in 2011. We have two boys, Grayson (8) and Caeden (6).
Years at SMPC: After visiting several churches around town, we felt at home at SMPC and joined as members 8 years ago (about a month before Grayson was born).
You lead our new Men’s Evening Study Group. What led you to want to connect with others in this way? I saw how meaningful and impactful Crystal’s experience was participating in a women’s group at church over the past several years and was seeking a similar opportunity to build community with other men at the church.
Please Note: The Men’s Evening Study Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in Chapel 206. Please join anytime!
