May 12, 2026SMPC Hosts ‘Star-Studded’ Breakfast for Smithfield Teachers
Last Monday (“May the 4th Be With You”) SMPC provided breakfast for teachers of Smithfield Elementary thanks to donations from tutors and designated funds from Missions/Outreach! What an amazing year it’s been to serve alongside these incredible educators.
We’ve had another incredibly successful year at Smithfield, and it’s all thanks to your dedication. Here is a quick look at the impact you made:
- 10 Classroom Volunteers provided essential support to our teachers.
- 4 ALP Tutors helped 11 students improve their reading skills.
- 4 Heart Math Tutors guided 8 students toward mastering math fundamentals.
Thank you to Kathy Graham for leading this ministry, and thank you all for giving so freely of your time and talents! Look for more opportunities to serve Smithfield next fall!

Rain or Shine, It’s Mahjong Time!
We had a great group of mahjong players last Thursday, despite the rain! SMPC hosts two mahjong days a week: Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and Thursdays, 1:15-3:15 p.m., both in the narthex! Come play with us!
Center of Hope Expansion in the Works
SMPC member Ruby Robinson shared these Center of Hope construction photos after delivering SMPC’s sweet treats on Mother’s Day. The facility’s expansion project should be complete in September and will include an enlarged dining room – welcome news to SMPC’s breakfast crew! The current Center of Hope facility was built in 1991 and serves an average of 275 unhoused women and children every day. More exciting news to come!
SMPC Bride Shines in Local Magazine
If you see a SouthPark Magazine Weddings edition around town, make sure to grab one! One of our very own brides is featured! The beautiful wedding of Natalie (Gaines) and John Ellis is featured in the issue – along with a cameo from our sanctuary! Natalie is the daughter of Terry and Dave Gaines. The two were married last year in the sanctuary and now reside in Charlotte. We are so happy for them and are grateful that they chose SMPC for their very special day!
