Special Guests Visit Sunday Worship
You might have noticed some unfamiliar faces in the pews during Sunday worship. Dr. Matt Brown had several visitors from Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hickory, NC. This is the congregation Matt served as pastor from 1990-1998. These dear friends wanted to hear Matt preach before his upcoming retirement! After worship, they all gathered for lunch and fellowship.

SMPC Youth Make Over 1200 Sandwiches for Roof Above
On Sunday, October 12, 40 middle and high schoolers, with additional adult volunteers, came together in Mecklenburg Hall for Operation Sandwich. The group made 1,279 sandwiches for our neighbors in need at Roof Above. We are SO proud of our youth and continue to be in awe of their service, faith and love for neighbor!

SMPC Youth Celebrates Eagle Court of Honor
Congratulations to Scouts Troop 119 and SMPC member George E., son of Mary and Dean Elledge, who celebrated his Eagle Court of Honor Sunday evening, October 12, in Mecklenburg Hall. The evening was such a beautiful illustration of what it means to truly be a part of a community! Typically, the Scoutmaster leads the ceremony, but since George’s dad, Dean, was doubling as Scoutmaster AND parent of the honoree, David Gaines filled in as leader. Dr. Matt Brown gave an opening prayer, Tim Morgan and Steve Stevenson helped throughout, Rev. Lindsey Odom gave the benediction and both of his parents gave remarks. The room was packed with SMPC members and friends who helped nurture George through the years. What a joy it was to witness one of our youth receive this special honor! George became SMPC’s 100th Eagle in March.
