- Over-Scheduled Andrew: Watch a read-aloud of Over-Scheduled Andrew by Ashley Spires here. Andrew tries to do everything—yoga, fencing, cooking class, theater practice—but ends up too tired to enjoy or grow in any of it. Like Andrew, we often take on too much and forget what matters most. In Luke 9, Jesus reminds his followers to think carefully about their priorities. As Noell Rathbun notes, even good things can become distractions from our calling. What do we need to say “no” to so we can say “yes” to following Jesus?
(Source: Storypath, Union Presbyterian Seminary) - Following Jesus in Your Neighborhood: Take a walk as a family and pray as you go. When you pass a school, pray for students and teachers. If you see someone walking a dog, pray for neighbors and friendships. Passing a mailbox? Pray for people who are far away. This “on the move” prayer time reminds us that following Jesus includes paying attention to those around us.
- Praying Hands Reminder: Trace your hands on paper and cut them out. On one hand, write the names of people you want to pray for. On the other, write places or situations in the world that need God’s love. Hang the hands where you’ll see them as a reminder to pray and to let your priorities reflect your faith.
- Journal, Considering the Following:
- I wonder what Jesus wants us to understand about following him.
- Are there things I’m doing that make it harder to follow Jesus?
- What helps me make good choices about how I spend my time?
- What do I want to put first this week?
