July 1, 2025In Ewo’s June Hero Stories, their online newsletter, Actionnel Fleurisma, pastor and founder of OFCB Ministries in Bayonnais and SMPC charter member, gave an optimistic and uplifting update on life in Haiti. We continue to keep our Haitian brothers and sisters in our prayers as their country lives with unrest and uncertainty. For more information on how you can get involved in our mission work with Haiti, please click here. We look forward to welcoming Actionnel and his wife, Yolande, to SMPC in September. More details coming soon!
Greetings Friends and Ministry Partners!
Many of you continue to see Haiti in the news and have expressed your concern for us. Thank you and allow me to share my thoughts and an update with you. Even though the fiscal year was a year of hardships, we have completed it. The ICB School completed its year on June 6th and all that is left is for the 9th and 13th graders to take their national exams. We are already looking toward the next school year – many students start back on the 4th August of 2025.
Yolande and I are still planning on being in the United States with you all from August 24th through October 19th. We are lucky that the travel ban does not impact us. We want to be with you all to encourage one another and to strengthen ourselves in order to do more and be better.
Some years ago, I heard a story about 3 frogs that were making a trip. Their journey seemed endless and the frogs were excessively tired. As they were moving ahead with almost no energy at all, they suddenly got tripped into a bucket of milk. Two of them decided that it was the end of it – they gave up and drowned. The third frog refused to give up. It struggled in the bucket of milk trying to get out. The frog fought so much, jumping about, that the milk transformed into butter – and he stood on it and got out.
For the last 10 years, Haiti seems to have been in a bucket of milk, like those frogs, destined to drown. Thousands of Haitians have chosen to give up by fleeing the country to Brazil, Chile, France, Canada, the USA, and the Dominican Republic. They have chosen to die in the bucket of milk.
In Bayonnais, we chose to fight, to believe in our future. We believe in teaching our kids. We believe in winning souls for Jesus Christ. We believe in standing together, helping one another in times of crises. We believe in togetherness. We are resilient and hard-working people. We believe that Haïti has been one of the most welcoming countries in the Western Hemisphere.
We will not let our fear and discouragement be greater than our faith in God and in ourselves. We will continue impacting younger generations! Let’s keep giving HOPE and building Heroes for kids here through education and evangelism! We shall get out of this, and there will be days of celebration.
Please continue to pray for Haiti and for Bayonnais. We look forward to seeing you in August.
