February 21, 2024Lunch Bunch Enjoys a Trip Back in Time during its Annual Winter Gathering
On Friday, February 9, the Lunch Bunch spent a fun and engaging morning with local historical dramatist and educator Nora Brooks. Nora presented the character of Martha Washington, the wife of the first president of the United States. She was hilarious and informative! The group enjoyed a delicious catered lunch following the presentation.
Thank you to all who joined in on the fun!
‘Hole-y’ Cow! What’s Going On at the Church Entrance?
You may have noticed construction surrounding our campus lately, especially a gigantic hole dug just this week! Crews are installing a communication infrastructure as part of the City of Charlotte’s Bryant Farms Road Extension project. The project will include the installation of a traffic circle where Bryant Farms meets Blakeney Heath. More to come on how this impacts SMPC, but for now, you can see details about the project from the City here.
Youth ‘Ignite the Light’ in Our Hearts on Youth Sunday
We celebrated Youth Sunday on February 11 and enjoyed having youth lead us in worship and song and offer their reflections. Everyone did an amazing job. THANK YOU to all the youth who participated and thank you to all who donated canned goods and monetary donations to Nourish Up.
Youth Sunday helped us remember that God is the light that shines in the darkness and that is the same light to which we, as disciples of Christ, are called to bear witness!! So thank you, seniors, for nurturing us with your inspiring words in response to John 1:1-10. If you miss Sunday’s worship, you can still listen to the youth’s reflections via our podcast here.
Spending Time with Friends is Sweeter than Syrup
We celebrated Shrove Tuesday with our traditional Pancake Feast, and what a feast it was! Bacon, sausage, homemade pancakes and fruit – we were happily stuffed – but not too stuffed to enjoy some fellowship time. It was wonderful to connect with each other and prepare ourselves for the 40 days of Lent.
We also collected breakfast items for serving to our Center of Hope friends. Thank you to all who brought items – we appreciate it so much! Please note: we are looking for one more servers for this weekend’s Center of Hope Breakfast. See the SignUp Genius to sign up.
Thank you to our Hospitality Committee for your perfect planning and execution in one of SMPC’s favorite events! And thank you to the many who helped cook, set up, serve and clean up!
Ash Wednesday Marks the Start of the Lenten Season
We marked Ash Wednesday with drive-through ashes and an evening worship service with communion on February 14.
“Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season of solemnity and self-reflection meant to heighten our awareness of our mortality and our dependence on God’s mercy,” said Pastor Matt Brown in his weekly devotion.
