Troop 119 Climbs to New Heights Out West
Twenty-four youth and adults from BSA Troop 119 just got back from an incredible adventure out West. The group left Charlotte on Saturday, June 26 for Colorado to whitewater raft and climb then headed to New Mexico to Philmont BSA Family Adventure Camp. The group climbed to the summit of summit Baldy Mountain (12,441 ft), rode horses, pole climbed and threw tomahawks, among other fun activities. Looks like a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many – we are so glad they are home safely and had a wonderful time!
Faces of Faith: Jon Myers
SMPC Note: This summer we’ve launched a weekly series called “Faces of Faith” where we spotlight SMPC members and learn about how their faith and involvement in the church have impacted their lives. This week’s spotlight is on SMPC member Jon Myers!
Name: Jon Myers
Family: Crystal and I met at Virginia Tech and got married right when we moved to Charlotte in 2011. We have two boys, Grayson (8) and Caeden (6).
Years at SMPC: After visiting several churches around town, we felt at home at SMPC and joined as members 8 years ago (about a month before Grayson was born).
You lead our new Men’s Evening Study Group. What led you to want to connect with others in this way? I saw how meaningful and impactful Crystal’s experience was participating in a women’s group at church over the past several years and was seeking a similar opportunity to build community with other men at the church.
Please Note: The Men’s Evening Study Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in Chapel 206. Please join anytime!
