June 14, 2023Cue the Cuteness! Summer Organ Sidekick (SOS) Kicks Off
Sunday was a special day for our Music Ministry!
The Summer Organ Sidekick (SOS) program “kicked off” with seven-year-old Daniel Lee as our first-ever sidekick next to Director of Music and Organist Zach Bowyer. Daniel, son of Barbara and David Lee, arrived early to worship to get an introduction to his tasks for the morning and sat next to Zach throughout the service, soaking in what it feels like to play this incredible instrument and lead congregational song. He even got the “fancy sock” memo.
We also had one of our talented youth, fourteen-year-old Alec White, son of Melissa and Kevin White, play Bach’s Prelude in F (BMV 556) on the organ.
We know this won’t be the last time we see these two taking part in our Music Ministry, and we look forward to welcoming more children and youth this summer.
If your child (ages 2nd-6th grade) would like to be an SOS, sign up here!
Great Minds Dress Alike!
We can’t pass up a fun twin moment! Church members Terry Gaines and Donna Podgorney came to Sunday’s worship in the same dress – this isn’t the first time it’s happened at SMPC, and we know it won’t be the last!
SMPC Youth Share Fun in the Sun and Fellowship at the Lake
SMPC middle and high schoolers spent the day at Lake Tillery on Wednesday, June 14! The youth enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and lots of sunshine. Thank you to SMPC members Terry and Dave Gaines for graciously hosting and thank you to our chaperones for all of your help. It was a perfect day and an excellent way to kick off summer!

How has SMPC allowed you to connect with others? We LOVE SMPC. When we prayed about a church we wanted to hear the Word of God and be known by the congregation. We have connected with so many through the Ringing of the Bells (thank you, Zach), Saturday Chrismon Group (thank you, Donna), Making Space Mom’s Group, Hops Around Town, Vacation Bible School, Zac’s baptism and participation in Children’s Worship (Rebecca, you are amazing), the new Tuesday Night Men’s Group, and serving on the Welcome Team. We love the way that we engage with the congregation in both celebration and in service. We could not be happier to have found our church home!
