Our youth loved and served our neighbors within the city of Charlotte by sorting clothes for Crisis Assistance Ministries on Wednesday, June 21. Thank you to everyone who came out to help!
Director of Youth Ministry Earns Dual Degree
Our very own Director of Youth Ministry Lindsey Odom graduated from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte on Saturday, June 24 at Sharon Presbyterian Church in SouthPark.
Lindsey graduated with a dual degree – a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Education. She was also the recipient of the Presidential Service and Leadership Award, which recognizes and celebrates graduating students’ exceptional contributions to the life, work and mission of the Union Presbyterian Seminary community during the time of their studies, and the Walter W. Moore Fellowship, an award given by the faculty to a member of the graduating class on the ground of distinguished merit and exceptional promise.
We look forward to Lindsey’s ordination and installment as associate pastor of youth and missions/outreach!
Congratulations, Lindsey!
SMPC Celebrates a Baptism and Welcomes New Church Member
On Sunday, June 28, we celebrated the baptism of Wyatt Thomas Day, son of Jackie and Jordan Day, and brother of JJ Day. We also welcomed new member Donna Wilcox. Donna’s son and daughter-in-law Chris and Denise Wilcox, and grandchildren, Joe and Sydney Wilcox are also church members. We are so happy to have another generation of Wilcoxes at SMPC!
SMPC Members Beat the Heat with Lemonade and Cookies
One of the best parts of worship during the summer is gathering for lemonade and cookies before the intense summer heat cranks up! And it’s not just for kids! We hope to see you out there this Sunday!
SMPC Youth Take on Massanetta
The SMPC middle school youth traveled to Massanetta this week for the middle school conference. Led by Director of Youth Ministry Lindsey Odom and parent chaperone Valerie Glover, the youth have attended keynotes, recreation, workshops, and worship designed by high school leaders. With time to reflect and learn alongside youth from other churches, our SMPC is having a blast. Lindsey has been updating the Google Drive with pictures. See more below.
We pray for their safety on the journey home and hope they feel closer to God and each other after this week!
Matt’s Bible Study Meets Before Taking Summer Break
Matt’s Bible study met Wednesday morning for the last time before taking a break in July! The group will start back up in August and ALWAYS welcomes new members. Join in person or on Zoom! It’s a wonderful way to deepen your faith and enrich your worship experience (and make great friends!).
Community Events at SMPC Don’t Stop in the Summer
Community organizations frequently make use of our campus – even in the summer! Here are some photos of some recent events held right here! We are so blessed to have the space to welcome others onto our campus.
On the left and center: A newly formed mission by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA (UOC-USA), Annunciation to the Birth-Giver of God, met in the Commons a couple of weeks ago. The mission is made up of parishioners from Charlotte and the surrounding area. On the right: The Anna Sitnikova Music School held its recital in Mecklenburg Hall on Saturday, June 24.
Faces of Faith: Kay Dano
SMPC Note: This summer we’ve launched a weekly series called “Faces of Faith” where we spotlight SMPC members and learn about how their faith and involvement in the church have impacted their lives. This week’s spotlight is on SMPC charter member Kay Dano!
Name: Kay Dano
Family: I have one daughter, three sons, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three stepdaughters and nine step-grandchildren
Years at SMPC: I am a charter member – I joined in 1992.
What do you love most about SMPC?
I have been a member of SMPC almost from the very beginning. I have seen and felt the welcome and love it has always given to all who enter its doors. I always say that I have three families: my “family” family, my friends that are like family and my church family. SMPC is truly family to me! I love everything I have here.
