April 7, 2025SMPC Celebrates the Many Blessings of Associate Pastor, Wishes Her Well in Next Chapter
With joy and sadness we celebrated Associate Pastor Dr. Whitney Bayer’s last Sunday serving at SMPC on March 30, 2025! She will begin a new chapter in her ministry as pastor of Rumson Presbyterian Church in Rumson, NJ. Whitney served at SMPC for over seven years. We’ve watched her children grow before our eyes (proof – see pictures below) and have been blessed to have them and her husband, Daniel, as active participants in our faith community. We will miss them so!
After worship on Sunday, we celebrated sweet endings and new beginnings and had a chance to hug Whitney and thank her for her leadership, faithfulness, trust in SMPC and heart for service (cake was also involved, of course!!).
While transitions can be hard, we trust in God’s faithfulness and in the plans that God has for both Whitney and for our church. Please keep Whitney, her family, and both our congregation and Rumson Presbyterian in your prayers during this time of change! Whitney, thank you for all the blessings you bestowed on SMPC!
If you missed worship on Sunday, you can listen to Whitney’s sermon here.

SMPC Youth Learn About the Lord’s Supper at April BYG
Our middle and high schoolers came together Sunday evening for the April BYG (Big Youth Group). In addition to enjoying food, fellowship and games, they learned about partaking in the Lord’s Supper. Youth enjoyed being able to gather around the Lord’s Table to remember all that Christ has done for us and celebrate the continual ways that Christ works in our lives and within our world today. 🌎
Thank you to all of our adult volunteers and BYG leaders for being there and supporting and nurturing our youth in the knowledge of this sacrament!

Community Culinary School of Charlotte is Chef’s Kiss
A group of 21 SMPC members and friends dined at the Chef’s Table at the Community Culinary School of Charlotte (CCSC) on Tuesday, April 1. Founded in 1997, CCSC provides workforce development training and job placement assistance in the food service industry for adults who face barriers to long-term successful employment. This agency is also a part of SMPC’s Alternative Gift Market.
“It was such a wonderful, meaningful event,” said SMPC Missions and Outreach Co-Chair Katherine Martin. “We had a delicious lunch, great fellowship, and we really enjoyed learning more about how CCSC is making a positive impact in our city.”
Thank you to the Missions and Outreach Committee for coordinating this event! Martin said if you are looking for a way to support this agency, consider stopping by for lunch or ordering boxed lunches for your next catering event! Operation hours, menu, location and more can be found on their website.
