May 22, 2024Filled with Love…And Body Wash
The Shelter Ministry met on Thursday, May 9 and filled about 800 Rx vials with body wash for Roof Above, a men’s shelter in Charlotte that works to end homelessness. Thank you to the volunteers who filled vials and thank you to all those who donated vials and body wash. Please note: as summer is upon us and you might have more free time, this ministry is always open to more volunteers (youth are welcome, too!)! They meet on the second Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in Mecklenburg Hall. Next date: June 13.

SMPC Tutors Serve Breakfast to Smithfield Teacher Breakfast
SMPC tutors provided breakfast for the teachers at Smithfield Elementary School for Teacher Appreciation Week last week! Currently, SMPC has about 18 tutors helping students one-on-one with reading at the school. If you are interested in becoming a tutor for next school year, please contact SMPC member Kathy Graham. It is fun and rewarding service!

SMPC Welcomes Confirmands into the Church
What an incredible blessing to welcome 16 Confirmands into the church during worship on Sunday, May 12! Our Confirmands professed their faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and promised to live as a follower of Christ and participate actively and fully in the mission and life of the church by the grace of the Holy Spirit. During worship, our Chancel Choir sang one of our favorite anthems, Craig Courtney’s absolutely beautiful arrangement of “Fairest Lord Jesus,” and our Gaudete Ringers (middle school chimes), co-directed by Helen Castle and Gayle Ireland, played some great repertoire for the prelude and offertory. You can find the worship service online on our website and watch a fun video on Instagram with photos and music here.

It’s Official! Construction Has Begun!
Attention! The small portion of Blakeney Heath between Bryant Farms Rd./Elm Ln and Parks Farm Ln is closed and will remain closed until the new traffic circle is completed at Bryant Farms Rd./Elm Ln., which the City of Charlotte estimates to be late August. Don’t be deterred! You can still access the church from Parks Farm Ln or Blakeney Heath from Ardrey Kell Rd (there are orange barriers and “Road Closed to Thru Traffic” signs at Ardrey Kell Rd and Blakeney Heath but you still have access to the church). Please contact the church office or Steve Stevenson if you have any questions about how to get to church!
