Conversations Around Race Equity Group Takes Walking Tour Uptown
The Conversations Around Race Equity (CARE) Group took a walking tour of Uptown Charlotte last Sunday, May 19. The tour, called “Charlotte’s Haunted Future,” explored how stories of “exclusions and invisibilities” have been written into the Charlotte cityscape. With guide and author Greg Jarrell, participants walked through Uptown looking for what has been hidden. Participants from the group said, among the many things they learned that surprised them, was that the lifeblood of our city, the railroad, was built using enslaved people.
If you are interested in joining the CARE Group or future events like this, please reach out to Whitney Bayer, Associate Pastor, to be added to the email list.

SMPC Youth Kick Off Summer with Games, Swimming and Fellowship
Our middle and high schoolers kicked off summer with a party at the Bartholomew’s house last Sunday. The group swam, played volleyball and basketball, enjoyed dinner, fellowship and a devotion. It was the BEST way to usher in the new season. A huge thank you to the Bartholomews for hosting! While our “normal” SMPC Youth programming is paused for the summer, we have various events over the next few months to meet up. You can find the events on the Youth page on our website or by contacting Associate Pastor of Youth and Missions/Outreach Lindsey Odom.

SMPC Preschoolers’ Give a Grand Finale Performance
Our SMPC Preschool students celebrate the end of the school year in a big way with a special performance with parents, friends and family members and refreshments in the narthex on Tuesday, May 21. We loved seeing their smiling faces in the sanctuary and hearing the sweet voices singing (“Skidamarink a Dink a Dink” never gets old!)! Thank you to our SMPC Preschool staff and teachers for pouring their love and time into their students, and thank you to the parents for trusting our preschool with your children! We also snagged a few pictures of church members’ families and preschoolers :-). We will continue to pray for our preschoolers – especially those graduating from our school and starting new schools next fall!

SMPC Members Shine Brightly on Stage
We love seeing our SMPC members and friends out in the community sharing their God-given talents with others (becuase we can’t very well keep them to ourselves on Sundays! :-)). Three SMPC members performed in Providence High School’s Chorus Concert on Tuesday evening, May 21: Jubilate Choir and Exultate Ringers Members Blake R. and Davis L. and SMPC member Katie C. We are so proud of them!
